Prerequisites for enrollment and admission to the (BTh) Program
The Baccalaureate in Theology (BTh) is an ecclesiastically-recognized degree granted by the Pontifical Urbaniana University (PUU) in Rome by virtue of DWST’s affiliation.
Admission Requirement: TWO YEARS PHILOSOPHY
DWST shall administer the First Cycle Program leading to a Baccalaureate Degree in Theology. DWST offers the three years of basic Theology. The two years of Philosophy must be completed previously in an Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy or an approved institution (q.v. VG art. 75 § 2; Instr. art. 24).
The first two years of the program shall be primarily dedicated to a solid philosophical formation that is necessary for undertaking the study of Theology. A Baccalaureate in Philosophy obtained in a non-Ecclesiastical Faculty or a non-approved institution does not give grounds for dispensing a student completely from the first-cycle philosophy courses (q.v. VG art. 74; Instr. art 24).
The student should meet at least 120 ECTS for the biennial Philosophy (q. v. Instr. art 24).
Enrollment: First semester of the First year of Theology.
Requirements for obtaining the degree:
- Completion of all the courses and DWST requirements from T-1 to T-3 with an average of 82 in the obligatory subjects.
- A candidate should meet at least 180 ECTS for basic Theology (q. v. Instr. art 24).
- Besides the examinations or equivalent tests for each course, at the end of the first cycle, oral and written comprehensive examinations, whereby the student proves that he or she has fully achieved the scientific formation intended by the respective cycle is given (q.v. Ord. art. 58; Instr. art. 27).
- Written comprehensive examinations which last for 5 hours. The questions to be answered will be picked from among the questions from the PUU “List of Theses”. The written comprehensive examinations are graded by DWST professors and the test booklets are forwarded to PUU for review.
- Profession of Faith to be made by all BTh candidates during the graduation mass.
